For my final feature of this week’s Dungeon Synth Sunday, it is my pleasure to bring you forthcoming Realm and Ritual cassette release, “The Maze of the Minotaur”, by Unsheathed Glory & Mortal Relic.
My favourite format of split release, in that it has a proper album title and an overarching theme that both artists contribute to through interwoven tracks. This is a transportive album, with an enchanting, enthralling narrative that turns chapters of intrigue, delight, action and introspection.
Neo-folk bard, Mortal Relic and fantasy synth mage, Unsheathed Glory, tell the story of a party of adventurers and their trials and tribulations in the psychedelic maze of the cyclopean minotaur. Rather than each artist sequestered onto separate sides of a tape, each artist unfurls part of a larger narrative, alternating tracks to speak to the warrior, thief, and mage and their heroic trials in this hellish labyrinth. Inspired by D&D campaigns and hack-and-slash dungeon crawlers, “The Maze of the Minotaur” contains a varied sonic palette of stringed ballads sung in darkened taverns interspersed with video game inspired incidental music conjuring dungeon exploration and boss battles.
Tapes will available on Friday, June 28th @ 12PM EST, in a hand-numbered edition of 75 translucent red tapes with double-sided pad-print and 3-panel J-card.
